Farmers Who Made a Difference

Technology adoption changing lives across Jalaun district

Since its inception in 2005, KVK Jalaun has been instrumental in introducing improved agricultural technologies to the farmers of Jalaun district. The following stories represent the broader impact of KVK's work across the district's 9 development blocks.

Crop Production

Improved Wheat Productivity

Progressive farmers from Konch and Madhogarh blocks adopted improved wheat varieties with recommended package of practices through KVK Jalaun's FLD programme, achieving yields significantly higher than the district average of the time. The success spread horizontally to neighbouring farmers in subsequent seasons.

Sesamum Yield Improvement

Under the CFLD oilseeds programme, farmers in Jalaun and Orai tehsils adopted improved sesamum varieties distributed by KVK Jalaun. Combined with recommended weed management and plant protection, farmers reported substantially improved yields compared to traditional varieties — motivating wider adoption across the district.

Kitchen Garden & Income Generation

Farm women trained by KVK Jalaun in kitchen gardening and vegetable production took up year-round vegetable cultivation, reducing household expenditure on vegetables and generating additional income from surplus produce — demonstrating that technology adoption benefits extend beyond the field to the family.

Agri Start-up — Rural Youth

Following KVK Jalaun's skill development and entrepreneurship training, several rural youth from the district took up farm-based enterprises. This initiative was highlighted at the national level when Dr Vister Joshi from KVK Jalaun discussed the agri start-up potential on Doordarshan Kisan (22 September 2023).

Organic Crop Production

KVK Jalaun's organic farming training motivated several farmers to adopt organic production practices for vegetables and spices. These farmers reduced input costs by preparing their own bio-fertilizers and vermi-compost, while also accessing premium organic produce markets.

Pulse Production under NFSM

Under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM), KVK Jalaun supported farmers in urd, moong and pigeon pea production with improved varieties and Rhizobium seed treatment. Yield improvements and reduced fertilizer cost demonstrated that NFSM technologies were profitable for Jalaun farmers.
